You need to have a contract.
As a freelancer, a legal contract is very necessary. Hopefully you’ll never need to rely on it but if you do, you need something that sets out your intentions, the scope of the work, deliverables, deadlines and your rates. Nothing fancy, just something you can understand and use to protect yourself. This fully-customisable contract is what I use for clients who don’t have their own contract for me to sign.
