The Mockingbird Project
Welcome to The Mockingbird Project. This is something a little different, dreamt up during the long hours of coronavirus lockdown. It will probably prove to be one of my more questionable ideas but I’m going to give it a go anyway.
While sorting through boxes of things left untouched in the spare room for years, I came across a book called Tequila Mockingbird. A graduation present from a friend. The perfect graduation present for an English grad who enjoys the occasional, or more regular, tipple.
I was flicking through the book and chuckling at the well-written puns when it hit me. Not literally of course. But in the metaphorical sense, it slapped me around the face and screamed: “What a great idea Emily!”.
So, what is my fantastic and yet questionable idea? Well, I’m going to work my way through Tequila Mockingbird and read every classic book mentioned and make every cocktail listed. I did tell you it was both a fantastic yet questionable idea.
For each entry, I will update you on my thoughts on both the book and the booze. I’m hoping that if I write about each one, I will be holding myself accountable and will actually get through it. There’s going to be no particular order to the series as I will be starting during lockdown so I will have to work with what I have to hand. There’s also no timeline because who knows how long it will take me to read each book.
I will let you know what I will be tackling next so if you want to join in, you can. But I’m not sure how much I recommend that. This is the book by the way.
To start with I’ll be jumping straight into the deep end and tackling A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Shakespeare. To accompany it, I’ll be sipping a little cocktail named A Midsummer Night’s Beam for the Jim Beam whiskey it requires.
And so, the Mockingbird project was born. Wish me luck.
